Santa Skips Christmas!?! is a children’s picture book written by Michelle Luise Walters with illustrations by Natalie Merheb. For many years, Santa has spread joy and cheer around the world. Every Christmas Eve, he waves goodbye to Mrs. Claus and flies his sleigh, giving gifts to children. This year, Mrs. Claus tells the elves to plan a surprise for Santa to give him some rest. The whole year, they prepare presents for kids and organize the Christmas Eve trip, but this time, the elves are going to give out the presents while Santa spends time with his wife. Initially skeptical, Santa is convinced when he sees how meticulously the elves have prepared. As Santa celebrates his anniversary with his wife, returning to where it all began, the elves deliver the gifts. However, things don’t go as planned because the elves make mistakes. Despite this, their mistakes cause unexpected joy and new traditions for the families that receive the gifts.
Santa Skips Christmas!?! is a fun read that reminds readers about the magic of giving during the holidays and encourages reflection on the origins of Christmas, which is the birth of Christ. It also celebrates traditions, community, and teamwork. Michelle Luise Walters has structured the whole story into a poem. She uses rhyming phrases to give the story a lyrical tone with simple words that children will easily understand. I love the concept of this book because it has elements like the party at the North Pole that make it unique and give readers a refreshing perspective on the hard work that Santa does every year. It will encourage readers to appreciate and show kindness to people who help others and support us unconditionally. The book bursts with colorful illustrations—snow everywhere, a sky full of stars, and Christmas decorations that just glow. You can feel the magic of the holidays on every page. It’s one of those stories you’ll want to share, and maybe gather everyone around and read it out loud. Overall, it’s a treat for the season.
